As of the 2010 census, the population was 205,638. Its county seat is Warren. The county was created in 1805 and later organized in 1804. Trumbull County comprises the Mahoning Valley, one of the fastest growing regions in the United States. It is roughly a fifty-mile wide northeast-southwest valley in northeastern Ohio, and is located between Youngstown and Niles, New York. Warren, the county seat, is part of the Youngstown-Warren Metropolitan Statistical Area, which has a population of nearly 900,000. The county has not been without its troubles. The Mahoning River has been the source of much controversy since 1800 when the bottom silt fell through the riverbed and hundreds of thousands of acres of land were submerged. It continues to be a problem for the county. In the last several years, there have been several proposals to build a massive steel mill on the river. A proposal in 2006 was scrapped for economic reasons, but this was one of numerous plans for the county to become a steel manufacturing town. History The county was created by the Ohio General Assembly on February 5, 1805. This was one year after the United States acquired all the land in the Northwest Territory, and eight years before Ohio was admitted as a state. It was named in honor of Oliver Wolcott, Jr., the governor of Connecticut at the time. The seat of the county government was initially put at Blacklick, at the junction of the Blacklick Road and Blacklick Turnpike, but this was later moved to Warren. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of, of which is land and (3.7%) is water. The northern edge of the county is lined with the Allegheny Plateau, which extends northwest into Pennsylvania. This area is the elevation of, and is home to the highest point in Ohio at. The county ranges from above sea level in the southwestern corner (at the foot of Dunkard's Mountain in the town of Liberty Township) to at the southern end (in the course of the Mahoning River). Adjacent counties Ohio's Mahoning Valley is a valley formed when the Mahoning River cut through 55cdc1ed1c
